More
than 200 years ago, we were
known to the Huron people as Toronto, a
word that meant "meeting
place." In 1793, when
British settlers arrived they
named the town, York. In 1834,
they realized that the Hurons
were right. It was a meeting
place, a crossroads of cultures;
Toronto has been our name ever
since.
